Description:

FUNCTION: Reporting to the Director, Safety, this position supports safety at Porter Airlines through management of its Occupational Health and Safety Management System. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administer the occupational health and safety management system and all associated processes. Build and maintain the hazard prevention program in consultation with the policy committee.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to occupational health and safety; ensuring up to date awareness of any changes in legislation related to Occupational Health and Safety
Conduct job hazard analysis, risk assessment and administer any preventative measures necessary to address identified issues; report to the Director, Safety all unresolved safety-related matters.
Manage employee health and safety education programs
Investigate, record and report all hazardous occurrences arising in the workplace
Liaise with regional health and safety officers as required
Submit mandatory reports to Human Resources Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) and Transport Canada (hazardous occurrence investigation and work place committee reports)
Contribute to management review of company safety management systems
Maintain the confidentiality of organizational safety reporting systems
Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy
Any other duties as assigned

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent working knowledge of federal occupational health and safety regulations (Canada Labour Code Part II, Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Aviation Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, Health and Safety Committees and Representatives Regulations)
Familiarity with commercial flight operations and/or aircraft maintenance operations is an asset
Knowledge of investigation, root cause and trend analysis methods
Excellent time management, written and verbal communication skills; keen attention to detail
Experience in the development and implementation of a hazard prevention program
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications
Post-secondary education or acceptable combination of education, training and/or related experience
2 – 3 years of experience in a federally regulated company
Ability to secure restricted airport security clearance
Must maintain a valid passport and be able to travel when required
