As the Health and Safety Adviser you will be working at all levels of the business, developing influential relationships where you will partner with Senior Managers, Employees and Contractors. You will be responsible for delivering professional advice, driving continuous improvements, training and strategies to develop and guide an engaging health and safety culture.

You will be responsible for:

Working with managers to facilitate cultural change to improve safety awareness in the workplace to reduce injuries
Developing working relationships with Business Unit Managers and Stakeholders to promote safety issues and initiatives
Assisting Managers to ensure consultation with employees on WHS matters is undertaken in accordance with legislation
Research and maintaining knowledge of current environmental issues and make recommendations for any necessary changes to the system
Providing assistance in facilitating and advising risk assessments
Ongoing coaching and mentoring employees undertaking risk assessments to improve the standards of risk assessments and the competence of the staff performing them
To provide technical assistance to Business unit managers on the design aspect of plant, property and equipment legislative requirements
Participation in internal and external audit programs within port and network as required
Involvement in sourcing and review of WHS training courses to ensure they are specific for the target audience

Requirements:

To be successful in this role you will display:

Strong understanding and experience in the application of NZ Health & Safety Legislation
Strong understanding of ACC including Injury Management and WSMP
Proven background and experience with OSH safety investigations and risk ID
Previous experience and competent in the use of Safety Management Systems
Previous experience in auditing safety systems
Experience in developing standard operating procedures and/or local area procedures
Experience in the implementation and promotion of workplace wellness initiatives
Demonstrated ability to initiate and drive work place change
Experience in developing and delivering safety training
Highly developed analytical skills with the ability to analyse complex problems and offer recommendations and solutions
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products in particular Word, Excel and Outlook
Tertiary qualification in OSH or other relevant discipline would be advantageous
