Overview

As an Airport Communications Technician you will work in a fast-paced Washington, Dulles location. The Airport Communications Technicians plays a very important role in providing quality service to our internal customers. The Airport Communications Technician will be assigned to service two-way radio communication, dispatch console, x-ray screening, and explosive trace detection equipment. The Technician should have a thorough knowledge of installing and maintaining land mobile radio, air to ground radio, passenger and cargo screening security equipment, including:

Systems and component level service and configuration of radio transmitter, receiver, antenna, transmission line, trunked radio systems, and related RF tuned equipment.
IP networked and analog consoles, control equipment, and related apparatus.
Utilize analog and digital electronic fundamentals as they apply to land mobile radio, wireless data communication, and networking technologies.

Airport Communications Technicians must be able to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all weather conditions. Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority.

Airport Communications Technicians are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT). Salary increases will be administered according to the current IBT/United contract. Shift differentials of $.51 and $.58 cents per hour for working an afternoon or evening shift respectively are paid in addition to the hourly rate. New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment. There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union dues.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor degree in electrical/electronic engineering technology preferred.
Associate degree in electronic technology with 2-years related experience minimum.
Experience in a related field may be substituted for education.

Requirements and Experience

Must have a valid FCC General Radiotelephone License
Must have (24) Twenty-four months component level repair and overhaul in two of the three following areas:
UHF/VHF transceiver systems;
Video display systems (including TV repair, FIDS repair, or closed circuit systems repair); and
Airport security systems (magnetometers or x-ray)
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
Must have advanced computer and networking skills (Experience working with networks preferred)
Must have excellent organizational skills
Good verbal and written communication skills
Acceptable driving record required
Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, push, and pull. Mobility requirements including lifting, carrying, crawling, and ladder climbing
Team player
Customer focused
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
