Responsibilities:

WORK ACTIVITIES/CONTEXT:



Customer / Business Orientation:

Provides Leadership and coaching for team.
Completes tasks independently / interdependently.
Consequences of error carry a high risk to the organization.
Focus on internal and external Customer requirements.
Provides Leadership in key interactions with business Customers to define, analyze, and deliver Customer requirements.
Demonstrates advanced understanding of business processes being supported by assigned system(s).
Demonstrated proficient understanding of business processes across multiple business Customers.

Project Management:

Provide Leadership as a communications liaison between the business Customer and the technology development and support groups.
Develop time estimates for project schedules, monitor progress, and provide accurate and timely reports.
Plan and manage project activities within allocated resources.
Manage resolution of problems and escalate as required.
Work across projects to synchronize data analysis efforts and deliverables.
Negotiate and manage team relationships at project level.
Support the organization’s project management policy, practice, and methodology.

Problem Solving:

Employ productivity aids in all aspects of assignments.
Analyze and resolve complex or multiple problems.
Independently research and recommends alternative actions for problem resolution.

Systems Development Engineering:

Provide Leadership to design, create, implement, and support complex databases to meet project and system design requirements.
Implement complex changes to existing databases.
Provide Leadership for installation and configuration of new database engines and upgrades to new product releases.
Implement physical data models at a project, or corporate level.
Create, document, and administer, and document database backup and recovery plans, capacity plans and security plans to meet project requirements.

Testing / Deliverable Quality:

Plan tests for new products and database engine releases to ensure features and functions are acceptable and integrated across systems software and platforms.
Production Support:
Analyze and resolve highly complex problems.
Recommend database and system management tools as required.
Proactively investigate / troubleshoot database, technical and systems problems and direct / assure corrective action.
Work with application teams to recommend process or system enhancements.
Provide general technical support to Services and Development groups.
24X7 duty required for on-call rotation.

Financial Accountability:

Develop volume and cost estimates.

Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

EDUCATION:

BS, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, and/or equivalent formal training preferred.
.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

At least seven years (or equivalent knowledge base) work experience in Engineering and/or Information Technology – database environment required.
At least seven years work experience with design and development of multiple database engines including Oracle and Teradata required.
At least two years of work experience as a technical team lead required.
At least ten years of experience in a development DBA role, analyzing and executing medium/large tiered Enterprise Database/Data Mart projects required.
At least ten years of experience with ANSI standard SQL and be able to troubleshoot and tune SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, indexes, functions, and be able to identify and resolve performance issues required.
At least ten years of experience with prevalent Data Architectures/Design principles in this field and have the ability to clearly understand logical and physical data modeling techniques and optimize them for the project requirements required.
At least ten years of experience implementing Enterprise Data Warehouse processes, governance, and technologies required.
At least ten years of experience implementing Meta Data Management processes and tools required.
At least two years of experience using and applying the Agile development methodology required.
At least five years of experience with data modeling preferred.
At least five years of experience of design, configuration, and implementation of database security preferred.
At least two years of experience with functional and QA testing experience preferred.
At least two years of experience with Data Analysis (aka) “Data Archaeology” experience preferred.
At least two years of experience in implementing enterprise data program preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:



Core Knowledge:

Advanced knowledge of physical database design, capacity planning, security planning, backup and recovery systems, operating systems, data modeling, query language, multiple database engines, performance and testing, and software development concepts and technology.
Advanced knowledge of computer / network systems / hardware and software development methodology and process.
Advanced knowledge of technical / business environments.

Critical Skills:

Excellent partnering, communication, and negotiation skills, so as to gather and communicate business Customer requirements to technology development and support groups.
Ability to provide leadership within a specific technology area, or across multiple technology areas, to complete root-cause analysis, design solutions, write code, perform testing, provide documentation, and implement large / multiple development projects.
Ability to coach the technical development of less senior DBA’s.
Ability to analyze and resolve multiple, complex problems.
Ability to manage projects using the organization’s project management methodology.
Ability to work effectively in a strong Customer service / team oriented environment.
