The BI (Business Intelligence) Developer is a hands-on technical role participating in the full BI software development lifecycle from analysis and design through to quality assurance, with particular emphasis on development and coding. The BI Developer will design, develop and implement Data Warehouse (DW) applications that are used by the Qantas business.

This is a chance to be part of the establishment of a new and growing group which will be foundational to Qantas future success in information management and analytics.

Specifically this role will liaise with users and business analysts to design and create database solutions such as data loads and transformations, new reporting layers, database applications and end user reports. In addition to doing new development, this role will also be responsible for assisting the support team fixing production incidents – including bad data , non-performing SQL and rectifying any other production issues that may occur .

You will be responsible for:

Providing advice on data analytics solutions for customers, whilst being cognisant of competing objectives
Engaging with team members and other Centres of Excellence to leverage best practice and support BI Solutions
Coding and implementing Teradata solutions using SQL
Implementing and governing end-to-end DW solutions using SQL, Teradata, Datastage, Cognos and any other applicable tools and processes
Maintaining expert knowledge in Data Modelling, BI and analytics
Developing end-user reporting using enterprise tools
Conducting analysis of business Intelligence technologies/services within the IT market place, keep track of emerging trends, value add products and potential impact on the Qantas business
Providing expert advice to the development of the application and technology roadmap.
Consulting in high-level solution design, governance and innovation on data analytics
Collaborating with any external vendors who are part of the end-to-end lifecycle
Providing guidance to business stakeholders on best practice BI solutions
Being known as a subject matter expert on data and design methodologies
Conducting root cause analysis and problem solving of reoccurring issues associated with data analytics
Contributing to building and maintaining effective team dynamics
Developing a deep understanding of the business operating model, understanding both the tactical and strategic business objectives
Possessing proficient technical understanding of Business Intelligence Applications and technology environment

Requirements:

To be successful in this role you will display:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar
3+ years ETL/BI development experience
Teradata, Datastage, Cognos or related development skills
Experience of using Teradata
SDLC and Agile delivery approaches
Willingness and ability to learn new technologies as they emerge e.g. Spark , MongoDB, Cloud
Strong communication skills and presentation skills
Familiarity with data warehouse concepts covering ETL/ELT (Extract Load-Transform), data profiling, data models, integrated data stores, data marts, data semantic layers
Understanding of testing principles and data quality standards
Strong communication, presentation, and analytical skills which enables solutions, recommendations, strategies and actions
Adaptability and the capability of multi-tasking, time management and organizational alignment without compromising quality
High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project
Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate ownership of actions
Knowledge in Data Governance Standards and Processes
Familiarity with z/OS and PL/I is also valuable
