Description:
Senior Principal Engineer (SPE) serves in a leadership role in directing the cabin mechanical engineering for large complex aircraft modification programs for MRO customers.
Act as subject matter expert, the SPE is responsible for the design definition, integration, installation and certification of cabin components for the interiors of all of the customer's fleet in support of corporate strategic and tactical initiatives.
Based upon unique customer requirements, specific fleet or cabin component responsibilities may be assigned.
Responsibilities include direct coordination with OEM, modification sites, internal and external customers to support the design and development of passenger cabin interior reconfigurations, new product development or new aircraft specification development for the MRO customer.
Provide project engineering support during the development cycle including design reviews, technical issue resolution, first article inspections, engineering paperwork preparation and prototype modification support to customer requirements.
Prioritize modification program tasks and coordinate with customer requirements.
Coordinate with customer fleet, internal engineering groups and suppliers for additional product review as required.
Responsible for the total project ownership from a technical standpoint and culminating in the coordination and authoring of various engineering documents in support of customer requirements.
Works with high-tech materials that must meet stringent structural, flammability and appearance requirements.
Develops and maintains awareness of pertinent industry activities and technology trends. Establishes work prioritization and balances multiple concurrent customer projects.
Coordinates projects with internal and external organizations including various commodity suppliers.
Helps develop and support customer program performance metrics and works toward specific customer goals.
Develops strong internal Delta working relationships while maintaining a high level of customer focus.
Serve as a significant contributor/leader within industry association working groups.
The successful candidate will be responsible for consistently practicing safety conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
Requirements:
BS in aerospace, mechanical engineering or equivalent preferred with at least 15 years' experience in an engineering organization
Specific experience with commercial aircraft cabin interior modifications preferred.
Working knowledge of aircraft cabin interior configurations and components.
Familiarity with aircraft engineering paperwork, substantiation and certification.
Familiarity with regulatory requirments pertaining to the cabin interior is preferred.
Knowledge and experience with major airline operations is essential.
Knowledge and experience with major airline technical operations policies and procedures is desired.
Ability to analyze incomplete information and implement timely decision making while mitigating risk factors.
Must possess leadership, communication and technical credibility skills to be successful.
This position will involve direct interaction with Delta's MRO customers and must demonstrate the proper technical and professional aptitude in front of our customers.
Candidate must be willing to travel to Delta's Technical Operations base and MRO customer locations as required.
