The role requires effective and inspired leadership to all staff in Qantas Engineering Services in order to develop people excellence and deliver people growth. An important part of the role is ensuring that the necessary resources, facilities and finances are in place to provide the agreed services to all Qantas customers including Qantas Airlines, Jetstar, AaE and other third party customers.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Provide leadership and motivation across a cross-functional workforce, building a high performing team focused on the delivery of successful outcomes
Continuing airworthiness management of the QAN fleet to ensure the safe, reliable and economic performance of the aircraft in accordance with this CAME, CASR 42 and related Company procedures
Ensuring initial Maintenance Programs are approved by CASA and revisions to Approved Maintenance Programs (AMP), are approved by an MPAE
Development of the AMP for all fleet types to ensure a safe, compliant, reliable and cost-effective operation
Ensuring the monitoring, assessing and implementing of required Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA)
Liaising with other Qantas departments on aircraft operational matters and obtaining engineering analysis, data, advice, support and approvals
Organising and controlling, in conjunction with the CASR Part 21 Design Approval Holders / ADO, the designs, repairs, processes, materials and deviations from specifications
Ensuring an effective reliability program exists for QAN fleets and providing reliability reviews to ensure corrective action is taken in a timely manner
Responsible for technical management of arrangements with the QAN CAMO maintenance service providers
Liaising with OEMs CASA and other applicable NAA’s on airworthiness matters
Ensuring a weight control program is maintained for all aircraft in the fleet
Ensuring CASA requirements, Airworthiness Directives (AD) and other mandatory requirements are complied with
Managing the review of OEM Service Literature
Ensuring modifications and repairs are to the OEM requirements, or provide for CASR Part 21 approval
Providing maintenance data and technical information to the CAMO MPAE’s as defined in this CAME
Ensuring CAMS staff are trained and competent to deliver the business, technical and quality policies
Ensuring MDR investigations are conducted and reported to the customers, manufacturers and the responsible NAA
Providing support for the aircraft airworthiness review process to comply with the requirements to ensure that the Aircraft Airworthiness Review Certificate (AARC) and Certificate of Airworthiness (CofA) for each aircraft remain valid
Ensuring data provided to the AARE listed in this CAME are correct and appropriate
Managing the Operational Support Team (OST) which is responsible for ongoing operational support and repairs to the fleet for the CAMO.

Requirements:

What you’ll bring to the role:

Ability to engage people through effective communication and leadership skills
Business management qualifications and/or extensive experience in the Engineering & Maintenance industry
Demonstrated understanding of International & Australian Civil Aviation Regulations governing aircraft airworthiness and maintenance
The ability to assess and make balanced judgement decisions regarding continuing aircraft operations whilst accounting for the safety of customers and employees alike
Experience working under intense time pressures and being subject to constant close regulatory scrutiny
Demonstrated people and leadership skills, including the ability to influence and mentor others
Experience in driving sustainable change and the ability to strategically deliver ongoing growth
A commitment to ongoing continuous improvement
Strong history in an operations environment coupled with exceptional commercial awareness
Ability to work and succeed in an environment with multiple stakeholders with a natural affinity for fostering working relationships with senior management, regulatory bodies, clients and partner airlines and other federal and state union officials
Skills and experience in dealing with a unionised workforce and in union negotiations
A strategic thinker and planner capable of operating under pressure in a closely risk-managed business environment.
