The Qantas Group Safety Services (QGSS) team provides safety, health, security and quality services to its customers across the Qantas Group.

As part of the QGSS Audit and Investigation team, the Principal Safety Auditor is responsible for leading the delivery of consistent and effective audits of the safety, health, security, quality and environmental performance of the Qantas Group operations. The information obtained in the conduct of audits is used by management to meet regulatory and policy compliance which allows the airline to continue its operations.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Lead and facilitate the development of integrated operational audit plans that comply with relevant legislation
Lead audit teams in executing scheduled audit projects and unscheduled special purpose operational audits in accordance with an integrated, complex and time critical audit program
Lead the planning, preparation and delivery of audit information analysis and reporting to management
Establish, develop and maintain effective audit team relationships with key stakeholders and management across the Group
Proactively manage and monitor the development and implementation of agreed corrective actions by the business
Coach, educate and develop the audit team in knowledge and application of audit methodology and risk concepts through on-the-job training, mentoring and performance feedback.

Requirements:

What you’ll bring to the role:

Professional aviation management or safety qualifications highly regarded
Successful completion of approved lead auditor and safety management system training and qualifications
Sound working experience in aviation operations will be highly regarded
Demonstrated working experience in managing and leading safety and quality management systems audits in an aviation, transport, resources or similar industry
Experience in leading or managing diverse teams
Sound knowledge in safety related disciplines such as hazard identification, data analysis, auditing, investigations, risk management, human factors
Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills at a senior management level
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage complex analytical projects
Strong negotiating and conflict resolution skills to influence change
Ability to assess safety and quality performance and risk holistically
Ability to break down complexity and anticipate future requirements
An ability to see the big picture and influence stakeholders through strong relationships built on trust, credibility and sound advice
Sound knowledge of safety legislation and the aviation regulatory environment.
