As a Solution Architect at Qantas, you will be part of an elite group of IT professionals with the sharpest minds, whose focus is on building solutions that maximise the use of emerging technologies to transform our business. You will serve as a trusted advisor and be seen as an invaluable resource, working on high profile projects. This role is instrumental in building the link between the wider business and our IT strategy by leading the development of fit for purpose IT solutions for Qantas and ensuring those solutions are aligned to Qantas’ overall IT strategy and Enterprise Architecture.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading development of end-to-end IT solution architectures for Qantas IT projects
Being a champion for the Qantas Enterprise Architecture (EA) framework
Communicating the Qantas Enterprise Architecture framework to key stakeholders including Project Managers, other Solution Architects, Senior Consultants and Service Partners
Providing technical and architectural expertise to Project Teams and external vendors for end-to-end solutions
Ensuring all facets of the designs and technologies are integrated
Steering each project to the best architectural outcome
Identifying opportunities to reduce operating costs and/or providing business value
Ensuring solutions are consistent with Qantas Application Architecture and Strategy as well as Enterprise Architecture principles, standards, reference models and commercial objectives
Establishing effective architectural governance to ensure understanding and compliance with the emerging architectures
Documenting plans to show the business and IT architectural linkage to enable the strategic ambition.

Requirements:

To be successful you will possess:

A solid understanding of emerging technology, methods, standards and the business domains for which they are developing solutions
Ability to understand the drivers of the enterprise business and deliver to these initiatives, translating recommendations into clear business outcomes
Extensive knowledge of best practice software development methodologies and processes
Proven experience in roles as either a Solution Architect or in a senior technical or consulting role on large IT projects
In-depth knowledge of web-based systems architecture, service-based architecture, enterprise application architecture as well as experience managing expectations when balancing alternatives against business and financial constraints
Experience in solution design across multiple systems and business domains
Experience with IT system development lifecycle particularly the end-to-end development of the solution from concept to operation
Experience with large applications and complex application environments, specifically packaged solutions in a high-pressure environment
Strong verbal, written and presentation skills with an ability to communicate in both technical and business language
Ability to translate complex technical language into business impacts
Strong communications, relationship building, negotiation and influencing skills and is fully experienced at dealing with senior business stakeholders.
